Big Names in Enterprise Software
Have Been Busy

Last week saw hundreds of industry professionals and key influential businesses descend on Manchester’s Central Convention Complex for the annual two-day conference established as the go-to event for dynamic business leaders keen to share knowledge and discuss the big issues in the digital transformation of manufacturing.

The UK’s premier event for the Fourth Industrial Revolution, Industry 4.0 offered ample opportunity to exchange knowledge, benefit from hearing new perspectives on topical issues and gain an insight into the strategies that have been implemented by some of the UK’s leading businesses in order to ensure that they are changing and adapting to the evolving digital revolution.

Most notably, was a showcase of Siemens’ MindSphere IOT Platform – their most sizeable acquisition of the year and an investment which will surely be a great move in fostering widespread innovation across the manufacturing industry.

Similarly, it was excellent to see breakthroughs in the government’s Northern Powerhouse initiative, particularly within universities and large firms that are beginning to unearth how to apply the technologies released by major cloud platform vendors into their systems.

A large focus, for many educational institutions, was the ways in which the digital skills gap can be bridged – a particularly important topic given that it has recently been announced that the digital skills gap could cost the UK £141 billion in GDP growth. With delegates present from Manchester Metropolitan University’s Centre for Enterprise, it was interesting to learn from them and gain an insight into the methods they have put in place to tackle this issue.

Ultimately, the Cloud Kickers’ vision is to bring high tech to small companies, without introducing excessive time, cost or risk and we believe that now is a crucial time to establish the UK as leading in the global supply chain.

As a vendor-neutral consultancy designed to help businesses overcome the challenges associated with digitalisation, it was rewarding to attend the Industry 4.0 and offer support to a range of significant organisations.
